Bachelor of Event Management (Hons)


Introduction
The Bachelor of Event Management (Honours) (BEM) is an undergraduate academic programme that leverages on a unique learning opportunity in the combined disciplines of event, hospitality, tourism and management. Students pursuing the programme will be exposed both in the event, hospitality and tourism industry, as well as to the state-of-the-art technologies used in the fields of economics, management and marketing. As such, graduates of the programme are expected to be competent to handle not only the common event, hospitality and tourism practice but as well to provide advice on complex strategic issues in business decision making process.

The BEM is conducted over the period of three-years on a semester basis (six long and three short semesters), where students will major in hospitality, tourism and management areas. Given such academic exposure, graduates of the BEM, therefore, would be in an advantage position to find career opportunities not only in the government sector, but more importantly, in the private and corporate sector. As for the latter career opportunities, graduates are most encouraged to further acquire internationally recognized qualifications in marketing (IM), insurance (CII), transport and logistic (CILM) or corporate administration (ICSA).

Core Subject Description

Intro to Event Industry
Student will be exposed to the insight of event industry. This course will exposed student to event elements and the involvement of other sectors in the hospitality and tourism towards event industry.

Understanding consumers in society
Student will be exposed to a range of approaches to studying consumer behaviour as relevant for a better understanding of event business problems through presentations skills and reporting.

Leisure and Tourism Event Management
Student will be exposed to the event internationalization activities through active academic and trade research and commercial developments.

Event & Tourism Marketing
Student will be exposed to the event activities. The theoretical aspect will enhance the basic knowledge of the marketing concepts and the practical aspects will enhance students hands-on skills and the running and maneuvering of event business.

Planning and Management of Event
Student will be exposed to the planning of event convention and exhibition activities through a step by step event handling process. Focus will be given in handling a large scale of convention and exhibition events.

Event Risk Management
This course is designed to equip learner with useful knowledge managing risk in the event industry. Among the topic learned by students are risk assessment, event risk management trends and event risk handling decision.

Event Management Seminar
This course will exposed student to techniques in handling seminar. Student will also able to select and apply appropriate techniques to management problems in event management context and analyze the results.

Event Law & Production
This course deals with all the legal principles related to the formation and management of a particular business. Review is also done on basic law of all normal business decisions made by a businessman, such as contracts, consumer credit and banking transactions, particularly the aspects of his liability towards others who are dealing with him.

Contemporary Issues in Event Management
This course will exposed student with issues in event management and the future trend of managing event. Student will be involved in mini colloquium to discuss different aspect of event issues.

Career Opportunities
Graduates will find ample opportunity In not only availing themselves to careers In hospitality and tourism Industry but also In government services, academia as wellas careers in internationally recognized hotels,event organizations and travel operators.

A - Level with 3 passes. Students who have qualifications other than the ones stated, are to submit them for the University's Senate consideration.
